A source said: “Greatest Hits have wanted her for a while and as soon as Zoe found out about the Strictly job, she decided to take it.

“She absolutely loves being a radio presenter and after stepping away from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show a year ago, she took time to think about what she wanted.

“She knows so many people at the commercial station and can’t wait to get started.

“She is due to join the station this autumn.”

Zoe, 55, confirmed earlier this year that she had put herself forward for Strictly Come Dancing after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepped down.

In April bosses told her she had been unsuccessful — with Zoe saying she “had worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection”.

Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe were chosen instead.

In 2020 Mayo, 67, finished an eight-year stint hosting Radio 2’s drive-time show after he struggled with bosses introducing Jo Whiley as his co-host.

Veteran broadcaster Ken, 75, left in 2023 after 31 years and went to Greatest Hits Radio while Paul Gambaccini, 77, now works there too.

A source added: “The list of ex- BBC talent at Greatest Hits Radio is becoming a bit of a running joke.

“Now Zoe is joining the ranks, people are going to be talking even more.”
