The Kotwali police here on Saturday arrested a judge’s reader and her husband in the suicide case of a 32-year-old businessman.Apart from the couple, victim Sandeep Kumar – a resident of Nai Basti here – had accused DSP (City-I) Amritpal Singh Bhaati and advocate Charanpal Singh Brar of harassment and blackmail.He had levelled the allegations in a video and note before taking poison on Friday.Barring the DSP, the police have booked the other three in the case.Meanwhile, reader Renu Bala and her husband Raman Jain were sent to two-day police custody by a court here.The victim’s family threatened a protest if the DSP’s name was not included in the FIR. The family has not even given consent for the post-mortem and the body is lying at the local Civil Hospital. The deceased’s kin had also staged a protest outside the Civil Hospital last night, following which the FIR was registered.The Beopar Mandal and BJP leaders today extended support to the family, saying that if all those accused by the deceased were not booked, they would observe a bandh tomorrow.BJP district president Sarup Singla said the party would support the traders’ protest.Manish Kumar, brother of the deceased, said, “The police had agreed to name all accused mentioned in the note and video. We will not allow the post-mortem until action is taken against all.”Superintendent of Police (City) Narinder Singh said a case under Sections 107 and 61(2) of the BNS had been registered against Renu Bala, Raman Jain and advocate Charanpal Singh Brar. He said while Raman and Renu had been arrested, allegations against the DSP were being verified.
