SpiceJet on late Wednesday evening cancelled three departures from Mumbai, citing operational reasons including aircraft grounding, adverse weather at previous stations and Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) impacting crew availability, said an official on Thursday. The disruption hit key domestic sectors, affecting passengers on multiple routes during peak travel hours and chaos was also witnessed at Mumbai airport’s Terminal 1 following the cancellations. The cancelled flights included SG 631 (Mumbai-Delhi), SG 553 (Mumbai-Gorakhpur) and SG 669 (Mumbai-Bengaluru). According to the airline, the cascading impact of bad weather at Bagdogra, where the operating aircraft was previously stationed, combined with crew duty time restrictions, led to the cancellations. In a related development, two Mumbai-Ahmedabad flights were delayed after adverse weather conditions at Varanasi and Bagdogra disrupted aircraft rotations. Both flights have since departed, albeit behind schedule. The airline said it is operating additional flights to accommodate affected passengers and minimise inconvenience caused by the cancellations and delays. The operational disruption highlights the ripple effect of weather-related constraints and aircraft availability issues across interconnected domestic routes.SpiceJet expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and said efforts were underway to restore normal operations at the earliest, while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory norms, including FDTL requirements for crew.
