Former Malout MLA Baldev Singh Ballamgarh and his son, ex-municipal councillor from Muktsar Parminder Singh Pasha, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after quitting the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).Ballamgarh was elected as an Independent MLA from Malout in 1992. Pasha, who served as the SAD’s SC wing district president for a long period and also served as a Zila Parishad member, said the decision was taken due to dissatisfaction with the party’s policies.“We were annoyed with the policies of the SAD. The party was insensitive towards SC workers, so we decided to quit. Our family has remained associated with the Congress in the past as well,” Pasha told The Tribune, adding that he had been unhappy for some time.He said they joined the BJP in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Tuesday. “The party has asked me to be active in the Malout Assembly constituency, and I will carry out whatever responsibility is assigned,” he added.Malout is an SC reserved constituency, and it is currently represented in the Vidhan Sabha by Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur.Meanwhile, there is a buzz in political circles that a prominent political family from Muktsar may soon join the BJP.
