CELEBRITY Traitors’ host Claudia Winkleman made a flying visit to see the show win two Baftas at last night’s glittering ceremony.

She got up at dawn to make the 1,000-mile return journey from Inverness, where the new series is filming, to London.

Claudia, 54, missed out on the Entertainment Performance award, which went to Bob Mortimer for Prime Video’s Last One Laughing.

But she took to the stage after the BBC1 contest bagged the Best Reality programme gong.

She said: “It’s such an honour to be part of this extraordinary show.

“Thank you to the people — I hope this isn’t nauseating — who watch and do memes and everything. We see you and we’re incredibly grateful.

“This award is absolutely for our extraordinary cast who played with dignity, with gusto, and with their entire hearts and we love you.”

The Celebrity Traitors also won the Memorable Moment of the Year award — the only gong voted for by the public.

It was for the final scene where a tearful Traitor Alan Carr triumphed and took home the charity prize.

Show stars Nick Mohammed, Paloma Faith, Celia Imrie and Cat Burns were among last night’s audience at the Royal Festival Hall.

Accepting the Memorable Moment gong, Alan joked: “Was I good? Was I really? Or were the other celebrities just thick? It was Nick that made me cry. We were round that Round Table and he said, ‘We got this!’. I was like, ‘No, I’ve got this!’.

Referring to the new series, currently filming at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, he added: “I’m so jealous of all the celebrities up there that are doing it.

“Sometimes when I’m a little bit sad, I’ll sit there and I’ll remember the laughter — I can even smell Celia’s fart.

“I’m going to dedicate this award to Paloma Faith. There’s no one else I would rather murder more than you.”

Celia’s flatulence was also commented on by US movie star Seth Rogen, a self-confessed fan of British TV.

He picked up the International Award for his comedy drama The Studio.

Collecting his gong, he gestured to Celia in the audience and said: “I assume this woman in the green dress is a very-skilled, talented woman. All I know is that she farted on a reality show. I’m interested in your other work now, honestly. What else have you done?”

Usual TV Baftas hosts Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett — nominated in two categories — were absent as they compete in The Celebrity Traitors.

After the ceremony, Claudia briefly appeared at a press conference eating an egg sandwich she had grabbed on her whistlestop visit.

Within a few minutes she dashed off, apparently to head north to continue making The Celebrity Traitors.

As she left, she joked: “My flight is in eight minutes.”

Netflix drama Adolescence picked up four awards — the biggest haul of the night.

They were Limited Drama, Leading Actor for Stephen Graham, Supporting Actor for Owen Cooper and Supporting Actress for Christine Tremarco.

Stephen swore twice as he accepted the award saying: “I’ve been nominated eight times and it’s the first time I’ve won.

“When I was a kid, I watched a telly programme called Scully, written by Alan Bleasdale, and it had the wonderful Andrew Schofield in it. And he lived across the road from me nana’s house. So he showed me that I could be on the telly. Andrew was such a wonderful man, and he was my inspiration. So for any other young kid, no matter where you’re from — anything is possible.

“We get to do what we love. We’re not digging ditches and we’re not saving lives. But we have the opportunity to tell a human condition. And we have an obligation to tell beautiful stories.”

Going on to thank two production companies, he said: “S**t . . . sorry, I said I wouldn’t swear. Big up, everyone at Plan B, Matriarch . . .  b****s, it’s all going to pot. We need to keep that going. The kid’s already said it, but in the words of The Beatles, all we need is love.”

There was controversy when the team behind Gaza: Doctors Under Attack collected the Best Current Affairs gong.

The programme eventually aired on Channel 4 after the BBC refused to show it over impartiality concerns.

As the team picked up their award, the documentary’s presenter Ramita Navai listed casualties of the Israel-Gaza conflict, particularly doctors and medical workers.

She said: “These are the findings of our investigation that the BBC paid for but refused to show.

“But we refused to be silenced and censored. We thank Channel 4 for showing this film.”

Executive producer Ben de Pear added: “Finally, just a question to the BBC, given that you dropped our film, will you drop us from the Bafta screening later tonight?” His comments were kept in the final edit.

Meanwhile, it was a good night for Prime Video’s Last One Laughing which won two awards for its debut series last year.

As well as Bob Mortimer’s win, it also got the Entertainment award.

But there was disappointment for Erin Doherty and Aimee Lou Wood.

This year they made history by both being nominated in the Leading Actress and Supporting Actress categories.

Doherty was up for her psychologist role in Adolescence, and Best Actress for A Thousand Blows on Disney+.

Wood was nominated for her roles in Film Club and The White Lotus. Both actresses attended the ceremony but left empty-handed.

Other surprise wins included BBC’s Scam Interceptors, which beat Lorraine and The Chase in the Daytime category, and Code Of Silence which beat the hugely popular Blue Lights in the Drama Series category.
