Amidst a political standoff between Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP at the Centre, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is going to Delhi to meet two key central ministers to put across the state’s issues.For the past few months, the political battle lines between AAP and BJP have been clearly drawn in Punjab, with the former trying to defend its last political citadel and BJP showing aggression in gaining political ground in Punjab. CM Mann has been leading the onslaught from the front.The standoff between the two sides escalated after the defection of seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs to BJP last month and the raids by central agencies on ministers and officials. AAP has been claiming political vendetta by BJP. It is under these circumstances that Mann has gone to Delhi on Wednesday to seek the Centre’s intervention in Punjab’s issues.Mann will be meeting the Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss the pending road projects and delays in construction of the roads, culverts and bridges on national highways, which is delaying the completion of these projects.He will also be meeting the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to discuss the delay in allowing legislation against use of spurious seeds. The Punjab government had passed The Seeds (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2025 last year. It makes the sale of spurious seeds a non-bailable, cognisable offence. This law amends the Seeds Act, 1966, to impose strict penalties, including 1-3 years’ imprisonment and fines upto Rs 50 lakh for selling substandard seeds. The Bill requires a central nod.
