Even as the BJP’s leadership has been completely ruling out any chance of alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab, a tacit understanding had been reached between leaders of the two parties for the municipal polls in Mukerian.Mukerian BJP MLA Jangi Lal Mahajan has reportedly not just announced support for the SAD candidate Gurcharan Singh Chak from Ward No. 12 but also did door-to-door canvassing for him. Chak is also the SAD urban chief from Mukerian.Asked about the same, Mahajan said, “I have supported Chak as part of our mutual understanding at the local level. This issue should not be looked into deeply. In the MC polls, local level alliances are commonly seen.”Congress leader Sarbjot Singh Saabi said, “Isn’t the BJP MLA defying the orders issued by the party’s national president Nitin Nabin and Home Minister Amit Shah on no possibility of pact with SAD?”
