SPICE Girls singer Mel B is helping Brits cut down on doomscrolling with a unique callback service powered by O2.

Mel B has recorded a number of messages in her signature style, such as: “It’s time to stop! You’ve been scrolling for waaaaay too long. So put the phone down, go have a cup of tea, and get back to the real world!”

It comes as shock new research by the mobile network suggests that the average Brit is set to lose a staggering 4.7 years of their waking life to unintentional phone use.

And 41 per cent say their sleep has suffered due to mobile internet use.

Almost a quarter also revealed that it has a knock on their ability to focus, as well as causing a noticeable drop in meaningful, in-person interactions with friends and family.

“We’ve all fallen into the trap of repeatedly checking our phones and staying on them without even thinking about what we are doing, but I’m helping the nation to put a big stop to that!” Mel B explained.“I’m a massive advocate for taking a break from my phone and that’s why I’ve partnered with O2 to give you that much-needed nudge to get away from a screen, to look up and get back to the good stuff happening right in front of you.

“And if I have to give you a bit of a telling-off to do it, well, that’s why they call me Scary – but you know it’s because I care.”
