After one season in Germany, Mavropanos returned to England to join West Ham in a £21m transfer.
Now, having made 103 appearances for the Hammers in three years, he could make a return to north London.

Sky Sports reports that Arsenal remain “admirers” of the centre-back.
But the Gunners could face competition to sign him.
It’s also believed that multiple clubs from the Premier League and across Europe are also interested.
Arsenal already have William Saliba, Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White as right-footed defenders in the first team squad.
But Mikel Arteta could be looking to add further depth to his ranks in a bid to retain the league title.
Mavropanos currently has two years left on his West Ham contract.
However, the Hammers could be forced to sell him following their drop to the Championship.
It was reported earlier this year that West Ham would need to raise £150m in player sales this summer.
But club officials insist they will not have to sell their top stars.
The Hammers have already sold Mateus Fernandes to London rivals Tottenham ahead of the 2026/27 season.
