Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonepat at the Jind railway station, while also inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of projects worth Rs 23,000 crore spanning road infrastructure, healthcare and education in the region.Later in the day, Modi will flag off the Amritsar-Varanasi Express from the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment railway station.During his 50-minute visit to Jind, the PM will lay the foundation stones and launch Rs 14,700-crore infrastructure and healthcare projects in Haryana.According to the schedule, the PM will depart from Delhi’s Safdarjung Airport in an MI-17 helicopter at 10 am and arrive at the RPF ground helipad in Jind at 10.45 am.From there, he will proceed to the railway station, inspect the hydrogen train and flag it off. Modi will be formally welcomed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw followed by a speech by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.The hydrogen-powered train marks a significant step towards clean and sustainable mobility in the railway sector. Designed, engineered and integrated in India, it has been developed using indigenous technology, reflecting the country’s growing capabilities in advanced railway engineering.The PM will also virtually lay the foundation stones of a Sikh museum in Kurukshetra, the Hansi-Barwala national highway and the Kurukshetra elevated railway track from the HSVP Ground in Sector 9, Jind.From the same venue, he will inaugurate the Haryana stretches of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway (NE-05), the Ambala-Kala Amb national highway and the Jind-Gohana national highway.He will also hand over house keys to five beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) during the programme.Besides, the PM will dedicate major medical institutions to the nation — Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani, Maharishi Chyawan Medical College and Rao Tula Ram Hospital in Koriawas, Narnaul.According to the schedule, the PM will depart for Chandigarh from Jind at 12.20 pm by helicopter after addressing a gathering.After landing at the Rajendra Park helipad in Chandigarh at 1.35 pm, he will attend a 45-minute programme at Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12, during which he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of Rs 4,736-crore projects of road infrastructure, healthcare and education.Chandigarh DGP Dr Sagar Preet Hooda told The Tribune that all security arrangements had been put in place as per protocol. “The police are maintaining strict vigil and conducting intensive checking. The arrangements are watertight and foolproof.”Around 50 companies of the Chandigarh Police and Central Armed Police Forces are deployed for security, access control, anti-sabotage measures, route and venue security, traffic management and emergency response. Approximately 10 additional companies of the CAPF and the Punjab Police from five districts are deployed in Mohali. Sources said roughly around 10,000 security personnel will be deployed in the Tricity.Speaking to The Tribune, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who will be accompanying Modi in Chandigarh and Jalandhar, said: “The Prime Minister’s visit marks a significant milestone for the Tricity region. The projects being inaugurated and launched will deliver a major push to advanced road connectivity, world-class healthcare at the PGI and strengthened academic infrastructure. These developments will go a long way in public welfare across the entire region.”Later, the PM will depart for Jalandhar at 2.45 pm where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,470 crore. The Prime Minister’s visit to Jalandhar will be the second to the city in the past five months. Both his visits have been centred around the Dera Sachkhand Ballan, a much-revered place for Punjab’s 32 per cent Ravidassia community.On Friday, some functionaries and sangat from Dera Ballan will be seated in the Amritsar-Varanasi Express, which will be flagged off by the PM from the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment railway station around 4 pm.BJP leaders, including its state president Kewal Dhillon, have been coordinating with the dera ahead of the event and had personally invited Sant Niranjan Dass.Before the flag-off ceremony, the PM will deliver a short address at the platform.A rally venue has also been set up outside the station for the PM’s address.Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Jalandhar Lok Sabha MP from Congress Charanjit Singh Channi are likely to skip the event. A Cabinet minister is likely to represent the state government tomorrow.A three-tiered security arrangement is in place with over 10,000 personnel from all across the state deployed, including those from the Central forces, IB and the SPG. Several security drills have been held over the past few days. A two-kilometre stretch of road from the PAP complex — where the PM will land — to the railway station has been relaid.
