Punjab AAP MLAs cornered their government over its failure to auction the panchayat land and act against encroachers during the monsoon session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday.While Payal AAP MLA Manvinder Singh Giaspura questioned Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on the issue of non-bidding of panchayat land at Daulatpur village in the Malaud block, Ropar MLA Dinesh Chadha raised the matter of providing 800 acres of panchayat land worth Rs 1,500 crore at Bada Phool village to powerful people allegedly in a fraudulent manner.A visibly upset Giaspura, who challenged the minister’s reply on the unsuccessful attempt to auction 11 acres of land, said, “The House is not a place for lying. The truth should be spoken.” The minister said a manager had been appointed to conduct the auction after raising the bid amount by 20 per cent, but there were no bidders.Chadha said the Bada Phool panchayat had been fighting for the land worth thousands of crores, but the department had failed to act in the matter so far. The minister assured the MLA that if the panchayat sends a resolution regarding the land, the department will discuss the issue with the Advocate General and take further action.Dera Bassi MLA Kuljeet Singh Randhawa complained that locals were facing a lot of hardships as there was no sub-divisional administrative complex to house the office of the SDM and other civil and police officials.Jagraon AAP MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke sought the status of an Rs 80 lakh grant given to a government school during the previous government. Education Minister Harjot Bains said he would inquire about the status of the funds pointed out by the MLA.Faridkot AAP MLA Gurdit Singh complained that a patwari had registered cases against dead people for opening illegal canal channels for irrigating fields.
