Panic spread in the Ladhuka area of Fazilka district after the body of a newborn baby boy was found abandoned in a street on Tuesday morning.The body had been wrapped in a black polythene carry bag. Ladhuka Police Post in-charge Balkar Singh said a woman found the bag while cleaning the street outside her house in the Chandigarh locality of Ladhuka village.The police reached the spot and took the body into custody. Balkar Singh said the body had been kept in the mortuary of the District Hospital, Fazilka, for a post-mortem examination.He said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem examination.The police have booked unknown persons under Sections 91 (preventing a child from being born alive) and 94 (concealing the birth of a child by secretly disposing of its dead body) of the BNS.Balkar Singh said the police were scrutinising CCTV footage to identify the person who had abandoned the newborn in the street.
