B&M is set to open its first “store of the future” as part of a major relaunch.

The bargain retailer has transformed one of its branches, with the revamped 24,449 square foot site set to open later this month.

B&M in Wigan will relaunch as a future concept store, set to make shopping more inspirational and intuitive.

The Worthington Way store has remained open during its transformation and will relaunch on August 28, showing off its improvements to customers.

The revived shop, which has been dubbed B&M’s “store of the future” by bosses, will serve as a testing space for new ideas that will help to evolve the brand.

New layouts, concepts and technology will be trialled in the space, which now boasts a fresher, more enhanced shopping environment.

The shop has a new frozen food section along with self-checkouts and customer assistance buttons.

There’s also an improved layout that optimises navigation around the store, plus new signage and upgraded product displays.

A B&M spokesperson said: “We’re thrilled to be unveiling our newly transformed Worthington Way store.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, the representative added: “This relaunch is a fantastic milestone for both our store and the local community.

“Being selected as B&M’s concept store makes it even more exciting, as we’ll be trialling new ideas and innovations that could help shape the future of our stores.”

Meanwhile, B&M CEO, Tjeerd Jergen, added: “We’re incredibly excited to open our new Wigan store, the first to showcase our new store of the future concept.

“We’ve listened to our customers and colleagues to create a shopping experience that is more inspirational, more intuitive and even easier.”
