A Delhi court on Wednesday sent former minister Satyendar Jain, ex-Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO Udit Prakash Rai, and three others to 14-day judicial custody in a case of alleged corruption in DJB.The court also remanded another arrested Ankit Shrivastava to two-day police custody. A detailed order in the case is awaited.Jain along with five others was arrested on Tuesday by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government in connection with an FIR was registered on May 11, 2024 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.During the proceedings, counsel for Jain said that after the FIR was registered “way back on May 10, 2024”, his client was called once on August 5, and then the second time through a phone call on Tuesday, after which he was arrested.Counsel for ex-DJB CEO Rai also challenged his client’s arrest saying Rai was presently posted as secretary in the Mizoram Government.The agency said the case was registered on the complaint of Directorate of Vigilance, regarding large-scale irregularities, manipulation of tender conditions and criminal conspiracy in the tendering process relating to augmentation/upgradation of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) of DJB.
