Chief of the Army Staff Gen Dhiraj Seth met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at the Lok Bhawan on Tuesday and briefed him on initiatives to strengthen defence preparedness along the sensitive western border.Issues concerning ex-servicemen from Punjab and Chandigarh, which together account for one of the largest ex-servicemen populations in the country, were also discussed.The Army Chief is on a visit to the Western Command, Chandimandir, to review operational preparedness and ongoing capability enhancement initiatives. He was briefed by Lieut Gen Pushpendra Singh, GOC-in-C Western Command, on the security environment, force’s readiness, training measures and steps to enhance combat effectiveness. Gen Seth also interacted with senior officers.He emphasised the need for the Army to remain agile, adaptive and technologically empowered to meet emerging security challenges.
