A 31-year-old man, identified as Zaib Zuber Ansari, has been arrested in Mumbai’s Naya Nagar area for allegedly attacking two security guards after questioning them about their religion.According to police sources, Ansari asked the guards to recite the ‘kalma’ before allegedly stabbing them, reports NDTV. The victims, Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen, were on duty at an under-construction building behind Wockhardt Hospital when the incident occurred around 4 am on Monday.Both sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Mishra managed to reach the hospital on his own, while Sen was assisted by a local resident, Nayab Sheikh, who found him bleeding and took him first to the police station and then for medical care.Ansari was arrested within 90 minutes after police tracked him using CCTV footage. He was taken to Naya Nagar Police Station, where a case was registered against him under charges including attempted murder and promoting enmity between groups. He was later produced before a Thane court and remanded to police custody till May 4.A joint investigation by the police and the state Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) is underway. Authorities have urged the public not to spread rumours, warning that strict action will be taken against misinformation.Officials are examining mobile phones and electronic devices seized from Ansari to determine whether the attack was an isolated act or part of a larger conspiracy. Sources claimed that certain extremist terms were found in notes recovered from him.Preliminary findings indicate that Ansari had lived in the US for several years before returning to India after failing to secure employment. He was residing alone in the Mira Road area and earned a living by conducting online chemistry classes.Authorities suspect he may have been radicalised through online content.
