A court in Bathinda on Monday framed charges against Amritpal Singh Mehron and Ranjit Singh in connection with the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi.The next hearing has been fixed for September 22.Earlier, charges had been framed against co-accused Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh.Kamal Kaur, a 36-year-old resident of Ludhiana, was found dead in the rear seat of a car parked outside Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway on the night of June 11 last year. Her badly decomposed body was recovered after locals complained of a foul smell. Police have alleged that she was strangled to death.According to the police, the murder was linked to alleged “moral policing”. Investigators have claimed that Amritpal, who knew Kamal, had objected to some of her social media content and allegedly planned to “teach her a lesson” along with his associates.Police have also said that Kamal Kaur was lured to Bathinda on the pretext of participating in a promotional video shoot.Amritpal, a resident of Mehron village in Moga district, is accused of being the key conspirator. He allegedly fled to the UAE after the crime, was declared a proclaimed offender in February this year, and was subsequently deported from the UAE. He was brought to India on April 10 and has since been in judicial custody.Advocate Manpreet Singh Brar, counsel for Amritpal and Ranjit, said that charges were framed against them on Monday.
