As they prepared to celebrate with their adoring fans, Kompany realised he had left the prestigious trophy at home.
Instead of in the arms of his Bayern Munich players – it was in his kitchen.
Speaking to Bild, Kompany said: “We were here and suddenly the trophy was missing!
“Then I remembered: ‘Oh, it was at our house‘. It was lying in the kitchen.

“I didn’t even remember anymore that someone had given it to me the night before and said: ‘Vinnie, you bring it tomorrow.’”
Luckily for the former Manchester City captain, his wife Carla Higgs came to the rescue and delivered the trophy to the city centre just in time for the official ceremonies.
Kompany reportedly noticed the mistake during the trip to Munich’s Marienplatz.

Just as the squad was to be honoured by the new Lord Mayor Dominik Krause, the trophy was still in transit with Higgs.
Just as Bayern president Herbert Hainer was delivering his speech to the gathered guests, the trophy secretly arrived.
Once the trophy was safely back with the squad, they went to the famous Town Hall balcony to celebrate it with the thousands of fans gathered below exactly as planned.
After a scrutinised start in Germany, Kompany has won over his critics with two commanding league title victories and only narrowly missing out on the Champions League final.
A large part of Kompany’s success lies in the boots of Harry Kane who scored 58 goals in 50 games this season.
