Everton vs Man City preview
Manchester City arrive at the Hill Dickinson Stadium playing catch-up once again.
Having just pulled level with Arsenal, the Cityzens now find themselves six points behind their title rivals again after an awkward fixture pile-up.
While City were busy reaching the FA Cup final, Arsenal took care of business with a win over Newcastle before beating London neighbours Fulham to re-establish their advantage.
That puts the pressure firmly on City’s shoulders ahead of tonight’s showdown, which kick-starts a run of six games in 21 days.
The City camp aren’t too happy with the scheduling, but that frustration could be turned into motivation against Everton – not that they should need it given their recent record.
City have won each of their last six on the spin, scoring 14 goals and keeping four clean sheets in that spell.
Their record in this fixture is also strong. City have won 15 of the last 17 meetings with the Toffees, including nine straight away wins, with Everton failing to score in five of those.
It looks a tough assignment for the hosts, whose hopes of European qualification have taken a hit after back-to-back injury-time defeats to Liverpool and West Ham.
David Moyes’ side now sit 11th with four matches to play, though a win could lift them as high as seventh, so motivation won’t be lacking.
What is lacking is Moyes’ record against Pep Guardiola. The Scot has faced Guardiola 18 times in his managerial career, winning just once, alongside three draws and 14 defeats.
