Hacha is closing its Dalston location today after seven years in business

Hacha previously confirmed plans to close its original Kingsland Road site in East London on Saturday, April 25, following the shutdown of its Bermondsey bar last year.

Launching in 2019, the bar made headlines as London’s first “agaveria”, specialising in tequila, mezcal, soto, and raicilla, all made from Mexico’s native agave plant.

It quickly became a Dalston favourite, earning the accolade of Dalston UK Specialist Bar of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.

Hacha also earned a place on the coveted Top 500 Bars list, coming in at number 78.

The bar’s viral crystal-clear “mirror margarita” was even ranked as number seven in a round-up of the best cocktails across the globe by Time Out.

In an Instagram post announcing the closure, founder Deano Moncrieffe wrote: “Over the past five years, Hacha has operated as a two-site business, and continuing in our current form with only Dalston is no longer sustainable.”

However, he went on to tease “it’s just the end of this particular chapter, but not the end of the story”.

Hacha will continue serving its famous cocktails at festivals and events across the UK this summer, while the team continues its search for a new, bigger venue after outgrowing the current space.

The closure comes after Hacha was suddenly booted out of its second site at Bermonds Locke Hotel after only seven months in October.

At the time of the shock Bermondsey closure, owners said they stood to lose 65 per cent of their turnover in a few weeks with no backup plan.

Hacha had transferred to the site from Brixton Market, where it had resided for three and a half years.
