A British card chain with over 150 stores in the UK has closed the doors to a “lovely” branch today.
Locals said the closure had been “on the cards” for months.
The store had been located in the city centre for just over five years
Cardzone‘s Sheffield store has shut today (September 5), following weeks of clearance sales and 50 per cent discounts on all stock.
The city centre site, located in The Moors, had been trading for just over five years, having initially opened in 2021.

The greeting-card giant, which also owns Card Centre, previously warned that its reliance on leased stores presented a risk to the business.
It added that “most stores operate under leases lasting less than five years and there are no guarantees that lease renegotiations will be successful”.

Residents appeared unsurprised by the news of the Sheffield branch closure, with one Facebook user commenting: “It’s been on the cards for months. Such a shame”.
Another mentioned the store was “a lovely shop” and praised the staff for being “very helpful and friendly”.
Several Cardzone sites across the country have shut since 2023 as high street retailers continue to suffer from rising operational costs and falling consumer footfall.
This includes shops in Beeston, Blackpool, Chesterfield, King’s Lynn, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Reigate, Scunthorpe and Stroud.
Most recently, the Card Centre shop in Newport shut in July this year, as part of a wider reduction in Cardzone’s store estate.
Consumers have also previously complained about the rising price of greeting cards across the UK, stating the cost was “laughable”.
Cardzone was founded in 2005 as a family-owned business in Sheffield, and currently operates more than 150 locations across the UK.
The brand later acquired the Card Centre in 2014 as part of a deal involving 14 stores across Wales.
