The Centre has initiated the process to provide all-weather connectivity to the remote Tangdhar and Gurez sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari told the Rajya Sabha that consultancy services for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Sadhna Tunnel on the Kupwara–Tangdhar section of National Highway-701 had been awarded as part of the initiative to ensure year-round connectivity to the Tangdhar region.For connecting Gurez, the government has invited tenders for awarding consultancy services for the preparation of a DPR for the proposed tunnel at Razdan Pass.“Proactive snow clearance is ensured on all national highways, including other roads assigned to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir, to keep these roads open and in traffic-worthy condition during winter seasons,” Gadkari said.The minister further informed the House that under the Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), Block Public Health Units at Dawer in Gurez, Tangdhar and Teetwal have been sanctioned. A Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Sheikhpora and a New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) at Bhagote have also been approved.To ensure continuity of specialised medical care during complete road closures, free helicopter and air evacuation services are provided by the Jammu and Kashmir administration for critically ill and emergency patients requiring referral to tertiary healthcare institutions outside Gurez.“Such evacuations are coordinated through the District Administration in collaboration with the Health Department. For areas such as Marwah–Wardwan, one Block Public Health Unit at Community Health Centre (CHC) Marwah and one Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) at Margi have been sanctioned. A six-bed prefabricated unit under the Emergency Covid Response Package Phase-II (ECRP-II) has also been sanctioned for Primary Health Centre Afti,” Gadkari said.
