Amid the controversy over the ban on Diljit Dosanjh-starrer movie “Satluj”, the “Misal Satluj”, an NGO, in collaboration with several religious, social and panthic organisations on Jattvibeday launched its statewide “Challenge the Darkness” march from Harike Pattan to commemorate the memory of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.The campaign aims to spread awareness about justice, human rights and Punjab’s historical legacy among the younger generation.The programme began with an “Ardas” and “Mool Mantar” in memory of martyrs.Led by Balkar Singh, a large number of party leaders, volunteers and representatives of several organisations participated in the event and paid floral tributes to Khalra.Misal Satluj chief Ajepal Singh Brar announced that the organisation would establish a memorial dedicated to Khalra. He said the proposed memorial would serve as a centre to educate future generations about Punjab’s history, human rights issues and the struggle for justice.“Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life was a symbol of courage, truth and commitment to human rights. His sacrifice should continue to inspire young people to uphold justice and democratic values,” Brar said. Misal Satluj general secretary Davinder Singh Sekhon said the “Challenge the Darkness” march was being organised to honour Khalra’s memory and would travel across major towns and cities of Punjab in the coming weeks. He said the campaign would include awareness programmes highlighting human rights and social responsibility.Twin screenings pull crowdsMoga: On the one hand, several Sikh organisations are screening “Satluj” in gurdwaras and public spaces following its removal from an OTT platform; on the other, Moga administration has launched a tech-driven public outreach campaign to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas.Moga DC Sagar Setia said the government had initiated a campaign, wherein vans would cover 13,000 villages, spreading the Guru’s eternal message of equality and universal brotherhood.
