The viral reaction led to a second, more representative version being created.

Whether Messi will demand a redo of the 85 footer remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely.

Messi leads the race for the golden boot with five goals – the 39-year-old scored his first ever World Cup hat-trick in Argentina’s opener against Algeria, before adding two more against Austria and becoming the top World Cup goalscorer in history after missing a penalty.

And in terms of choosing your fighter, Messi probably would be the choice for most based on his tournament so far.

Ronaldo bagged his first goals of the tournament in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan, as he roared “I’m back” at the camera at full-time.
