The national capital turned into a high-security zone on Saturday as the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest began at Jantar Mantar here, with supporters demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged exam irregularities.Delhi Police detained six people to prevent clashes, while security was also tightened outside CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s Maharashtra residence.More than 1,000 Delhi Police personnel, along with paramilitary forces, were deployed at key locations across the Capital, including airport terminals, border checkpoints, and central districts, amid concerns over possible unrest. Tense moments unfolded near the protest venue after the police detained the six people — who allegedly raised slogans against CJP supporters, leading to brief chaos around Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police, however, clarified that no FIRs had been registered pertaining to the protest.“Certain social media posts and news reports are claiming that Delhi Police have registered an FIR against protesters at Jantar Mantar. It is clarified that no such FIR has been registered. Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate unverified information. Please rely only on official updates issued by Delhi Police,” a police official said. The police said the detentions were preventive in nature, and were carried out after receiving intelligence inputs about possible confrontation between supporters and opponents of the online movement.According to officials, the six individuals were taken into custody after allegedly attempting to create disturbance near the protest site, though the police maintained that the situation remained under control and no untoward incident took place.Multiple barricading points, frisking arrangements, and layered security deployment were visible around Jantar Mantar and adjoining roads as the police attempted to regulate movement and prevent overcrowding around the protest venue. The security build-up extended beyond Delhi. In Maharashtra, the police tightened security outside the residence of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke in the Waluj MIDC area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, as public attention around the movement continued to grow following his arrival in Delhi.Officials said police presence outside Dipke’s residence had now been expanded significantly, with around 10 personnel led by an officer deployed there, compared to a single guard posted earlier.Senior police officials indicated that deployment could be further increased depending on a review of the evolving situation and crowd movement. The police also said Dipke’s parents were currently not staying at the residence, and officials had not been in touch with them.Dipke reached Delhi ahead of the protest as supporters intensified pressure over alleged flaws in examination systems, turning what began as an online campaign into a large public mobilisation that triggered heightened security measures across states.
