The Congress on Tuesday alleged large-scale financial irregularities linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and demanded a time-bound investigation under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge into the management of donations, land transactions and temple assets.Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Rai and Congress Legislature Party leader in UP Aradhana Mishra claimed that funds donated by devotees and assets associated with the Ram temple project had been mismanaged.Questioning the effectiveness of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to examine the matter, Rai said the probe lacked a fixed timeline and raised concerns over the inclusion of “controversial” officials. He demanded that the inquiry be completed within seven to 10 days under the monitoring of a sitting HC judge.Rai alleged that irregularities had taken place at multiple levels, including donation collection, land deals and the handling of offerings made by devotees. He claimed the issue pointed to a “systematic” and “organised” misuse of resources and sought accountability from the Centre, alleging that individuals linked to the trust had close associations with the BJP and the RSS.Calling for strict action against those found guilty, Rai said an independent and transparent investigation was necessary to restore public confidence.Echoing the demand for a judicial probe, Mishra alleged that the BJP had “commercialised” the faith of Lord Ram’s devotees. Referring to earlier controversies surrounding land acquisition and temple-related projects, she claimed that questions raised over land transactions and infrastructure quality near the temple complex had not been adequately examined.Mishra further alleged that nearly 1,250 ‘Ram Shilas’ associated with the temple movement were reportedly missing and claimed there was no proper accounting mechanism for assets and offerings received by the trust.
