On Monday, the suspect, 44, was held at a £1.4million home in West London and taken into custody.

Met Police also revealed that the suspect was re-arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs.

Cops have been probing the cold case for nine years, that saw a man callously throw a woman under a 12-tonne double-decker bus.

Footage of the horrific incident shows a mysterious jogger shoving a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge, London, prompting a major manhunt.

Detectives had interviewed 50 men and arrested three suspects in the wake of the incident on Putney Bridge in 2017.

No suspect was charged in the case, which became one of Britain’s most famous unsolved mysteries.

The woman narrowly avoided death when, fortunately, hero bus driver Olivier Salbris managed to swerve within seconds of hitting her.

The quick-thinking manoeuvre meant the driver managed to bring the number 430 bus to a stop just inches from her head as she lay on the ground.

After the investigation was closed in 2018, fresh information led to a dramatic development on Monday.

The suspected pusher is believed to be a decorated British Army officer and have connections with Europe’s royal families, including the House of Windsor.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “On Monday, 15 June, a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.

“The arrest relates to an incident on 5 May 2017, where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in Putney.

“Once in police custody, he was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

“He has since been bailed pending further investigation in relation to all offences. Enquiries continue.”

In the immediate aftermath of the chilling crime a millionaire banker who was arrested over the incident was reportedly forced to hire bodyguards after receiving online death threats.

American Eric Bellquist was cleared of any involvement after police released shocking footage of the jogger pushing his victim into the path of a bus.

The 41-year-old went into hiding and was under the protection of ex-SAS veterans despite proving that he was in America at the time of the incident on May 5.

Cops eventually confirmed Bellquist had been eliminated from their enquiries after discovering he was 5,000 miles away on holiday in California when the Putney Pusher struck.

The Metropolitan Police are understood to have failed to check whether the banker was in the country before he was arrested.
