The unusual appeal was issued by the Salem Police Department in New Hampshire, which shared surveillance images of the bearded suspect as part of its regular “Wanted Wednesday” campaign.
Officers said the man was caught on camera after allegedly stealing a purse from someone else’s vehicle and then using the credit cards found inside.
Rather than issuing a dry appeal, police poked fun at the suspect’s resemblance to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
In a Facebook post, officers wrote: “GUESS WHAT PAL, you may look like Travis Kelce, TE for the Kansas City Chiefs and, possibly his more well known claim to fame, current fiancé of Taylor Swift, but your good looks and cool sty (kids call it ‘sty’ I think.) can’t get you outta this one!”
The department also joked about whether the suspect could actually be Kelce himself.
“Are we sure this isn’t Travis, actually? Anyone know where he’s been? Have times been tough? I mean I know the Chiefs missed the playoffs….”
Officers quickly dismissed the idea, adding: “Na, it can’t be. He’s a Swifty. He wouldn’t do this.”
Photos released by police appear to show the suspect walking out of a Best Buy store while wearing a bucket hat and a Calvin Klein T-shirt.

The department said the man is believed to have stolen purses, money and other items, though police have not released further details about the alleged incident.
In their tongue-in-cheek appeal, officers also joked about the suspect’s bucket hat, quipping that it may actually belong to him while recalling how a friend had “borrowed” their own hat nine years ago and never returned it.
Despite the humor, police are urging anyone who recognizes the man to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Prince at 603-893-1911 or by email at jprince@salemnh.gov.
The real Kelce, meanwhile, has been making headlines for very different reasons, with speculation continuing over when he and pop superstar Taylor Swift might finally tie the knot.
