DRONES are being deployed to a British holiday hotspot to bust sunbed hoggers – and culprits could be slapped with a hefty £260 fine.

Local authorities are embracing UAV technology in their war against sun lounger snatchers on the popular vacation island of Mallorca.

Specialist drones are reportedly set to determine whether occupied sunbeds are actually being used by holidaymakers.

Local cops in resorts including Calvia and Andratx are understood to be harnessing the power of drones to clampdown on sun bed raiders.

Dumping belongings such as towels on sun beds in order to “reserve” them can result in fines of up to £260 in some areas.

Additionally, almost 700 sun loungers and over 300 parasols across major beaches in the Balearic Island of Formentera have been banned between 2026 and 2029.

Local hotels receive hundreds of complaints every year over sun loungers and towels being used to reserve them.

It comes as the summer season enters full-swing – with Brit tourists rushing to holiday hotspots across Spain.

Last year, fierce battles for loungers played out in the beaches as UK holidaymakers scrambled every morning to secure a comfy spot.

Jattvibe-seeking Brits were spotted queuing for hours to get the most sought-after loungers.

Sol Pelicano Ocas in Benidorm was transformed into the fictitious Solana Hotel for the 10 series of the fan-favourite TV show.

And last summer it was at the heart of a sunbed standoff between tan-happy holidaymakers.

Hotel guest Louise Smith couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted fellow tourists queueing up to snag the best tanning spots.

And she was left completely flabbergasted when she spotted guests racing to the sun loungers as soon as the pool opened.

As shown in the popular TV show, which stars the likes of Johnny Vegas and Steve Pemberton, the hotel has a huge pool area, with plenty of spots for sun loungers.

However, some of the sun beds are better located than others, leaving Brits fighting over premium spots.

Louise captured footage of the bizarre incident, which occurred at 9am on May 27, 2025, from her hotel balcony.

“Mick would definitely have a few choice words for them,” Louise told Luxury Travel Daily, referencing Pemberton’s character in the show.

“I don’t think any of the characters would approve.

“People started queuing from 7:30am.

“I think it’s ridiculous.

“You go on holiday to relax, not to wake up super early to claim a sunbed.”
