While most of the Telugu and Hindi film industry chooses to refrain from comment on Stalin’s vulgar comment on Trisha, some brave women from the entertainment business have decided to speak up.Producer Prerna Arora who functions in both the Hindi and Telugu film industry feels men in position need to set an example. “Making tacky comments about women to get a few laughs is not uncommon in our entertainment industry. You should hear how men in the film industry speak about women when they are bro-bonding on the sets. I’ve heard some of the biggest of stars speak in the filthiest and most disrespectful way about their co-stars. This kind of loose talk about women is common to all walks of life. So Mr Stalin is just doing what he is accustomed to. Of course it should stop.”Says actress-anchor-activist Pooja Bedi, “Being a political leader is a great responsibility and the position merits accountability, sensitivity and maturity.We are a country of two billion people who are hyper sensitive today about caste, religion, status, community, women’s rights and personal projection. Gone are the days when Laloo Prasad could talk of making the roads of Bihar as smooth as Hema Malini’s cheeks and evoke laughter, and not protests. The difference in a ruler and a leader is that a leader knows the pulse of his people and is open to apologising if they are hurt, especially since they seek their votes and he needs to care. A ruler is someone who believes he calls the shots and is entitled to have his way.”Veteran Tamil actress Khushboo feels it is time for some seriously accountability in politicians’ behaviour to kick in. “It is very alarming to see the attitude of LOP(leader of opposition). It’s scary. More than glad people like them are voted out by the people and not in power. They abuse women and don’t even have an iota of remorse and feel issuing an apology to a woman will hurt their male ego. The misogynistic upbringing is questionable here. Glad that CM Vijay took an action. It set a precedent that no man can get away with a murder. Hope the rule will be applied to all. And its high time men in politics and otherwise, don’t take women for granted. No man has the damn right to rob a woman of her dignity, respectability and honour.”
