Dissenting Punjab Congress leaders have decided to “boycott” events of Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who was retained as the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief in the first week of July.While categorically avoiding issuing statements against Warring, these leaders in the meetings held over the last few days, including the one held last night at the residence of Gurdaspur MLA Barinder Meet Pahra, have decided to send feelers and messages to the party high command on Warring not being acceptable to them.Senior Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Tript Bajwa, Sukhbinder Sarkaria, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Sangat Singh Gilzian, besides others, reportedly arrived at consensus on waiting for the high command’s response on the issue in the last night meeting.While Channi and Randhawa are tightlipped on their strategy, sources said they had outrightly opposed Warring in a meeting called by AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal last week. The leaders in the internal party meeting have also started opposing Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel.The internal friction in the state unit is set to further escalate as Baghel has announced a series of meeting in Malwa, Majha and Doaba in coordination with the district presidents. The dissenting leaders are expected to boycott the meetings, as some of the district presidents are opposing Warring.Though it has been nearly a month since the election-related committees were announced by the Congress, not a single meeting has been held due to the impasse between the two groups.
