A violent face-off erupted between the cadres of the DMK and Congress in Mayiladuthurai on Friday, resulting in party flags being torn down and discarded on the streets.It was said that the clash broke out following the Congress leaving the DMK-led alliance and extending support to the TVK in the government formation in Tamil Nadu.Supporters from both parties were seen exchanging heated arguments and raising slogans. Visuals showed ripped Congress party flags strewn across the road amid the commotion.Police personnel intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K Selvaperunthagai has said that the Congress will be part of the new government in Tamil Nadu led by actor-politician Vijay-led TVK and claimed that it was offered two ministerial posts and one Rajya Sabha seat.Speaking to reporters in Chennai after a statewide protest against the Governor’s delay in inviting the single largest party (TVK) to form the government, Selvaperunthagai said the party’s top brass is currently finalising the details of their participation.”They (TVK) have said two ministers and one Rajya Sabha member.” However, the final decision on the number of portfolios and specific demands rests with the Congress national leadership, he said.
