Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Friday said the party would welcome anyone wishing to join it, amid speculation that some Congress leaders could switch sides after being denied key roles in the state unit following a reshuffle announced two days ago.Responding to a query about Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Dhillon said the BJP was not in touch with anyone, but if anyone wanted to join the party as per its policies, they were welcome to do so.Dhillon did not elaborate further when pressed for details. The remarks come at a time when the BJP camp is abuzz with talk of a possible revolt in the Congress.BJP leaders said they were upbeat about the possibility of leaders like Randhawa or even former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi joining the party as either would bring years of experience, along with loyal workers and a substantial support base.Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson RP Singh claimed that leaders of other parties were making a beeline to the BJP.“People are fed up with corruption and misgovernance. They want to give the BJP a chance in Punjab. The other parties are feeling the heat and facing revolts. Soon, more leaders will meet and join us,” he added.Advocate Rajesh Rana, SAD’s legal wing general secretary, joined the BJP on Friday. He was inducted into the party at the state BJP headquarters by Dhillon.‘AAP govt owes every state woman Rs 51,000’The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday demanded that the Punjab Government immediately transfer Rs 51,000 into the bank account of every eligible woman in the state under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana. The party said the amount was due for 51 months of the AAP rule. Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, flanked by the state BJP’s media cell head Vineet Joshi, alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann “cheated” the state women on two counts. He said the Mann government was transferring only Rs 1,000 a month to general category women and Rs 1,500 to those from Scheduled Castes, effectively denying them the Rs 51,000 due to them.He said AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had made a promise to provide the monthly stipend at a Moga rally on November 21, 2021.He said the Kejriwal’s promise covered every woman above 18 years of age in Punjab — a population of more than 1.25 crore — but the state government claimed to have transferred money to only 36 lakh women.Dhillon claimed the actual number of beneficiaries could be lower than the government’s stated figure of 36 lakh, and accused AAP of misleading people through false claims and propaganda.Dhillon also referred to Kejriwal’s earlier claim that the scheme would be funded by recovering Rs 20,000 crore lost to illegal sand mining. He alleged that mining activities had increased manifold since AAP came to power.
