They have been inseparable since they were born in March 1944 — bar the 20 minutes between elder John and Bill’s arrivals.
They were paper boys as kids and, after leaving school in 1960, they both joined a wholesale distribution firm in Birmingham, staying there for 31 years before it went bust.
They then became postmen, which they did for more than 17 years in neighbouring areas, before retiring on the same day in 2009.
These days, John selects their matching outfits at their Birmingham home — a tradition that started with their mother Agnes.

He said: “I’m normally up first so I go and pick something out and then Bill will go and match that. We do literally everything together and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
“Neither of us have ever married. We’ve got a really close relationship anyway — we didn’t have the time to bother with the opposite sex.”
The longest they spent apart was when John had two weeks in hospital with appendicitis.

Their only difference is John cannot stand brown sauce, while Bill smothers it on everything.
Bill said: “For us, being together is like a habit now. We can’t break it.
“People will often mix us up, which can be quite a funny thing.”
They also both needed cataract ops on the same eye at the same time, but are fit and healthy.
John said: “There’s people on our estate, our former schoolmates, and they’re hobbling around or in wheelchairs. We have each other so we can keep each other fit.”
