The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has unearthed a suspected drug network allegedly being operated from Nabha and Gurdaspur Central Jails, with preliminary investigation establishing links to four key accused already lodged in prison.In two separate operations, ANTF seized 6.465 kg heroin, two sophisticated pistols — including a Pakistan-made DR-1 pistol (9mm) and a .30-bore 14-shot Chinese pistol — and arrested four persons.Divulging details, AIG, ANTF, Gurinderbir Singh said that in the first operation, ANTF sleuths laid a trap and nabbed two accused identified as Ajay Chumbar and Sharandeep Singh alias Jattvibeny, both residents of Kapurthala district, while they were travelling in a Toyota Etios car near the grain market in Sande Hasham village.The AIG said that during checking, 5.530 kg heroin was seized from them, following which an FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar.Preliminary investigation also revealed the involvement of two other key accused — Prince, a resident of Pandva village in Kapurthala district, and Ajit Singh alias Happy, a resident of Habib Wala village in Ferozepur district. Both are currently lodged in Nabha Central Jail and are allegedly operating their criminal activities from inside the jail. Notably, both have been booked in multiple cases. Nine FIRs have been registered against Prince, while Ajit Singh alias Happy faces two FIRs.The AIG said both accused will be brought on production warrants to join the investigation, adding that more revelations are expected.In the second case, acting on inputs provided by a central agency, ANTF sleuths nabbed two persons identified as Rohit, a resident of the city, and Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Jaid village in Kapurthala district, after a dramatic chase in Ludhiana.Divulging details, AIG Gurinderbir Singh said that during checking of their vehicle, the ANTF recovered two sophisticated pistols — including one Pakistan-made 9mm DR-1 pistol and one .30-bore 14-shot Chinese pistol — 935 grams of heroin and drug money of Rs 1.35 lakh. The police also impounded their Thar Roxx jeep.An FIR under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, besides Section 262 of the BNS, has been registered at the City police station.The AIG said both accused were also in contact with Ravinder Singh alias Ravi alias Sukh, a resident of the city and a close associate of gangster Ashish Chopra, against whom 12 FIRs have been registered, and Akhil Sabharwal alias Prince, a resident of Ludhiana, who faces eight FIRs. Both Ravinder Singh and Akhil Sabharwal are currently lodged in Gurdaspur Central Jail.It is pertinent to mention that Ravinder was booked in the infamous triple murder case that took place on September 2, 2024, in which three youths — Jaspreet Kaur (26), her brother Akashdeep Singh (21) and cousin Dildeep Singh (32) — were killed and two other relatives were injured when six motorcycle-borne assailants belonging to the Ashish Chopra gang pumped around 50 bullets into them.The AIG said these accused will also be brought on production warrants. “In both cases, mobile phones have been recovered from the accused with the help of jail authorities and more revelations are expected,” the AIG said.
