In an unusual turn of events, the Moga Police have arrested a young woman from Ferozepur who had been posing as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police for over two months. The suspect, identified as Komalpreet Kaur, a resident of Mallewala village (near Chandewala) in Ferozepur district, allegedly used the fake identity to command social influence and secure a marriage proposal into a well-off family.According to police sources, Komalpreet hailed from a modest background and aspired to elevate her status. Adopting a sophisticated guise, she wore a tailored Punjab Police uniform, carried two walkie-talkie sets, and possessed a forged departmental identity card. She reportedly succeeded in marrying into an affluent household nearly a month ago based on her fraudulent police persona. However, her elaborate ploy collapsed due to a peculiar daily routine that raised eyebrows at the local police station.Investigators revealed that Komalpreet would routinely visit the Sanjh Kendra adjacent to the City-1 Police Station in Moga. She would drop off her lunch tiffin box with the staff on duty, claiming she was assigned to traffic duty at the nearby Main Chowk. An hour later, she would return to pick up her tiffin before vanishing for the day.Suspicion grew among local officers as her name did not appear on any duty rosters, posting orders, or departmental shifts. When questioned by alert staff members regarding her batch details, posting credentials, and supervisory officers, her explanations faltered.During a search, the City-1 Police recovered a fake police uniform, two radio handsets, and forged identity documents from her possession.A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for impersonation, forgery, and misuse of official emblems. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether she extracted financial or material benefits from others using the fraudulent identity.
