In a bizarre case straight out of a movie script, Moga Police have arrested a young woman from Ferozepur who allegedly spent more than two months pretending to be an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police.The accused has been identified as Komalpreet Kaur, a resident of Mallewala village near Chandewala in Ferozepur district.According to police, Komalpreet allegedly created an elaborate police persona to gain social influence and secure a marriage proposal into a well-off family. She reportedly married into an affluent household about a month ago while allegedly maintaining the false identity.And then came the tiffin box.The ‘ASI’ who had a very regular lunch breakKomalpreet reportedly visited the Sanjh Kendra near Moga City-1 Police Station regularly and left her lunch tiffin with police staff.Her explanation was simple: she was supposedly posted on traffic duty at Main Chowk.About an hour later, she would return, collect her tiffin and leave.But there was a problem, nobody could find her on the duty roster.As police personnel became suspicious, they reportedly questioned her about her batch, posting details and senior officers. Her answers allegedly failed to convince them, leading to further scrutiny.A subsequent search reportedly recovered a Punjab Police uniform, two walkie-talkie sets and a forged departmental identity card.In other words, the uniform looked official, the walkie-talkies looked official and the ID card looked official, but the duty roster had apparently never heard of her.How the two-month charade came undonePolice sources said Komalpreet had allegedly maintained the fake identity for over two months.Her alleged motive, according to investigators, was to project herself as a police officer, gain social standing and help secure a marriage alliance with a financially well-off family.Her elaborate impersonation, however, reportedly began to unravel when local police noticed that the woman claiming to be an ASI did not actually exist on official duty records.The case has now been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to impersonation, forgery and misuse of official emblems.Police are investigating whether Komalpreet allegedly used the fake identity to obtain any financial or material benefits from other people.
