At a time when politicians across parties are joining the BJP, former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is preparing to quit the party.Annamalai, a former IPS officer from Tamil Nadu, is popularly known as ‘Singham’ for his aggressive approach during his policing days. He announced today that he would interact with supporters at 12 noon on Tuesday and make his plans public. The press meet Annamalai plans to hold is expected to include an announcement of his exit from BJP, which he joined after taking voluntary retirement from service.“Tomorrow at 12 noon, I eagerly look forward to interacting with you all on social media to share my thoughts and have an open, heart-to-heart conversation,” he posted on X.Annamalai joined BJP in August 2020 and rose to become the Tamil Nadu BJP president. He was credited with reviving the party at the grassroots level and expanding its ideology across Tamil Nadu. But in April 2025, BJP replaced him with Nainar Nagendran after AIADMK made it a condition that it would join NDA only if Annamalai was removed as state president.Since then, Annamalai has kept a low profile in BJP. He did not contest the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, where BJP won just one seat in the 234-member House.Annamalai was in Delhi earlier this week to meet BJP president Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. BJP’s attempts to convince him to stay appear to have failed.
