The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge has granted bail to Shamsher Singh, father of fugitive terrorist Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, in a case related to an alleged Rs 50 lakh extortion demand.Notably, Shamsher and his wife, Preetpal Kaur, both residents of Muktsar town, were arrested from Amritsar on January 26 this year. Preetpal had got bail in March.Advocate Babu Singh Sidhu, counsel for Shamsher Singh, said the bail was granted on Friday. He added that they had not filed Shamsher’s bail application earlier.The case was registered in December 2024 after a government school teacher here complained of receiving repeated extortion and death threats from an international number.The police initially booked unidentified persons. Nearly a year later, the complainant allegedly named Shamsher, following which both husband and wife were arrested.After his parents’ arrest, an audio clip purportedly of Goldy Brar had surfaced on social media, issuing a warning to the state government and the police.Shamsher was given compulsory retirement from his job as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in 2021 after his alleged involvement had surfaced in a murder case in Muktsar district. Besides, his role had allegedly surfaced in an extortion case in a neighbouring district.
