Amid the row over ‘monopoly’ on the telecast rights of Gurbani from the Golden Temple and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) initiating legal action, the GTC Network has temporarily suspended the broadcast of Gurbani from its platform. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami maintained that ‘all the rights of Gurbani broadcast would be reserved with the SGPC only and any channel, web, YouTube channel, website, or social media platform not authorised by the SGPC has no right to redirect, re-stream, download, or upload Gurbani broadcast from SGPC’s YouTube channel or social media pages’.Dr Rabindra Narayan, founder and Managing Director of GTC Network, has reiterated his appeal to the SGPC to have a ‘big heart’ and be ‘liberal’ in its approach and allow the broadcast of Gurbani to resume on the GTC platform.”Please have a large heart, President Sahib (referring to SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami). Do not be angry. Be happy that Gurbani is reaching every home. We are not confronting you but extending a hand in propagating Gurbani without any vested interest. Please allow us to continue this service with complete maryada,” he said. He said that when GTC Punjabi viewers did not find the Gurbani transmission last evening following objections raised by the SGPC, they were agitated.”Out of respect for you, we had temporarily suspended the evening broadcast of Gurbani for some time. We have received your legal notice. You may approach the court, go to the police, or even have me sent to jail. With folded hands, I bow my head. However, suppressing the sangat’s demand for Gurbani was beyond my reach and understanding,” he said. Citing the link being continuously shared from the SGPC’s official page, Dr Narayan claimed that the link was shared over 1,000 times today to transmit Gurbani on different platforms.”Then, why was this discrimination directed only at GTC for doing the same? I consider this a service, a duty assigned by Guru Saheb. I take it as donating ‘daswandh’ for ‘sewa’,” he said. Gurbani was beamed through GTC’s multiple platforms and on every TV, every Android mobile, and every OTT platform since 3:15 am yesterday, but had to be discontinued by evening.”How could ‘Guru’s baani’ be disrupted? Our phones would not stop ringing since last evening. From England, Canada, the United States, and Australia, the sangat from across the world asked us only one question: ‘Why were they being deprived of the Gurbani kirtan and darshan of Darbar Sahib?'”At present, the SGPC streams Gurbani through its YouTube channel, “SGPC Sri Amritsar,” three times daily and also provides extended coverage through Facebook, its official website, and an Apple application. However, in the absence of its own satellite channel, it has continued to depend on infrastructure operated by the PTC Network, owned by Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Punjabi satellite broadcasting, Dr Narayan, former MD of PTC Network, has been associated with Gurbani telecasts since 1998. He parted ways with the PTC Network in August 2025 before launching the GTC Network.
