Two shooters linked to the Hariram (Harry) Boxer-Anil Pandit organised crime syndicate, which reportedly operates in alliance with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, were killed in an encounter late last night in Bahadurgarh during a joint operation by the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Haryana Police Special Task Force.The operation also left a Delhi Police constable injured, while the authorities have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the syndicate in an attempt to dismantle its network.According to sources, more than 20 rounds were exchanged during the encounter. The police recovered two pistols from the deceased.Mayank Mishra, DCP, Bahadurgarh, said the shooters, identified as Pravesh of Tibba Danasher and Himanshu of Jakhad Khera village in Hisar district, carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh each. They were wanted in connection with the broad daylight murder of gym operator Kapil in Hansi last month.“We received specific information that both accused, armed with sophisticated weapons, were moving in the Bahadurgarh area and were planning to commit another crime. Acting on the tip-off, the joint police teams launched an operation to surround and apprehend them. On spotting the police, the accused opened indiscriminate fire. The police retaliated in self-defence, leading to an exchange of fire in which both wanted criminals and a constable sustained injuries. During the encounter, bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of four police personnel, saving their lives and averting a major tragedy,” Mishra said.The DCP maintained that the injured constable and the two accused were rushed to the Trauma Centre in Bahadurgarh, where doctors declared Pravesh and Himanshu dead.Constable Ankit suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and is undergoing treatment at a higher medical facility. His condition is stated to be stable.Mishra said both accused had criminal backgrounds. “Both were involved in the murder of gym operator Kapil. Two cases under the Arms Act were registered against Himanshu at the Barwala and Agroha police stations in Hisar district. Kapil was shot dead in broad daylight on June 11. Subsequently, the responsibility for the murder was claimed on social media by a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, identified as Mitu,” he said.Meanwhile, Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal said the state police were taking firm and uncompromising action against organised crime, gangster networks and those attempting to undermine the rule of law.“During this joint operation, the police teams displayed exceptional courage, restraint and a high degree of professional competence while successfully carrying out their duty,” the DGP said.The encounter is linked to a wider investigation into the Hariram (Harry) Boxer-Anil Pandit organised crime syndicate, which, the Delhi Police say, operates in alliance with the Lawrence Bishnoi network. Investigators said the killing of the Hansi gym owner and the firing outside singer Guru Randhawa’s gym, 24 HS Fitness in Paschim Vihar, on the same day were executed by different modules of the same syndicate.On June 25, the special cell had arrested two alleged gang members — Hakikat, alias Sahil, and Sagar — after an exchange of fire near the Sahibi river in Delhi. The police said their interrogation yielded crucial leads that ultimately led the investigators to Pravesh and Himanshu.Seeking to target the syndicate beyond individual arrests and encounters, the special cell has now registered a MCOCA case against its alleged leadership, including Hariram, alias Harry Boxer, and Anil Pandit.The police said the investigation would focus on dismantling the gang’s financial and logistical network while pursuing legal avenues to extradite or deport fugitive gang leaders from their overseas hideouts.
