Kane, who has won a League and Cup double with Bayern Munich, trained with the England squad in Florida for the first time yesterday.

He said “I’d be lying if I said I’ve never imagined myself lifting the World Cup.

“The ambition is to win it, obviously. That has to be our goal.

“We know it won’t be easy, but in recent years, we’ve come very close to winning a major tournament: we reached two Euro finals, a World Cup semi-final and a quarter-final (in 2022).

“This year, we have a new head coach and some new players; it’s an exciting time—even though this kind of competition inevitably brings a lot of pressure.”

The Ballon d’Or event will be staged in London on October 26.

Asked if he could win it should England win the World Cup, he said: “I would certainly be among the favourites.

“Given the trophies I’ve won this season and the number of goals I’ve scored, I’d definitely be in the running.

“Especially since, if England were to win the World Cup, one could imagine the trophy going to an English player.

“When you look at who the current favourites are to land the Ballon d’Or, there’s Michael (Olise), some players who reached the Champions League final, and myself.

“But at the same time, I’m not the kind of person to claim that I deserve a Ballon d’Or. I try to let my performances on the pitch do the talking.

“When I started to really deepen my knowledge of football during my teenage years, that was the era when Ronaldo and Messi were dominating the trophy. That’s when I truly realised what it signified.

“Winning it in my hometown—that would make it even more special for me.”
