Congress MPs, led by Deepender Singh Hooda, raised the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue during a Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 meeting. They urged Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to intervene and ensure Haryana received its share of water.MPs Jai Prakash, Varun Chaudhary, Satpal Brahmachari and Karamvir Baudh accompanied Hooda during the meeting.Hooda, in a letter to Patil, said the SYL canal construction remained stalled despite Supreme Court orders in 2002 and 2004. He alleged that while Punjab continued to benefit from the status quo, farmers in Haryana are facing water distress.“A high-level meeting between the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab in January 2026 also concluded without any result. This makes it evident that this political deadlock cannot be resolved through state-level talks alone, strict oversight by the Centre is essential,” they added. The Congress MPs urged the Ministry of Jal Shakti to take decisive action on the SYL canal issue, stating that mere dialogue and routine meetings between officials were insufficient.
