Haryanvi singer and actor Masoom Sharma was awarded a master’s degree in mass communication during the convocation ceremony of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts, held on Monday.The degree was conferred by Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university.University registrar Prof Gunjan Malik Manocha informed that Masoom was part of the first batch (2019-21) of the course and although he completed the programme earlier, his degree was formally awarded during the convocation.In recent times, Sharma has also remained in controversy over some of his Haryanvi songs, which drew public debate regarding their lyrics and portrayal of social themes.Despite the discussions around his music, he continues to maintain a strong presence in the regional entertainment industry. His latest film ‘Licence’ has further kept him in public attention.The controversy, emerged recently, was after his live performance at a college in Dehradun, where he was allegedly seen using abusive and objectionable language on stage.A video of the incident went viral on social media, after which the Haryana State Commission for Women took suo motu cognizance and issued notice to him.
