The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice of motion to Punjab and its functionaries on a petition filed by a 25-year-old student seeking a time-bound conclusion of investigation in a year-old FIR allegedly registered over comments made on the Instagram page of Udhayveer Singh Randhawa. The Bench was told that the complainant is the son of Sukhinder Singh Randhawa, Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.Taking up the petition filed through counsel Dinesh Mahajan, Justice Shalini Singh Nagpal also fixed September 15 as the next date of hearing in the petition. The Bench, during the course of hearing, was told that an FIR in the matter was registered on August 2, 2025, at Kotli Surat Malhi police station in Batala police districtHis counsel contended that the FIR was registered following the comments made by the petitioner on the complainant’s Instagram page, which had been deleted. “Counsel submits that petitioner was a young, 25 years old student, a period of one year had elapsed, but neither the police was investigating the case nor was presenting challan. Limited prayer is that direction be issued to official respondents to conduct and conclude investigation in the case, in a time bound manner,” the Bench observed.Additional Advocate-General Kunwarbir Singh, present in court, accepted notice on the State’s behalf. He submitted that “investigation of the case was underway” and sought time “to file status report in the matter.”
