Ludhiana-based Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, also known as Yashinder Kaur, had a love story that turned into a death story. Her boyfriend Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukhi Brar, from Canada continued a relationship with her for years while the singer was unaware of his marital status.Kaur’s singing career was at its peak when she developed a friendship with Sukhi, a native of Moga, on Instagram about five years back. They chatted and after a few days of friendship, they fell in love and promised to marry each other.Inder became a popular singer with several hit songsInder Kaur had entered the music industry about 10 years ago and delivered numerous Punjabi hits. She also collaborated with several Punjabi singers, including Parmish Verma. At that time, she was quite popular on social media.She had a huge fan-following on social media with about 258K followers on Facebook and 124K on Instagram. Her songs had millions of views on YouTube. Her song ‘Naa Chalda Hai’ has 23 million views, ‘Desi Sirey de’ has 10 million views, ‘Lanedarni’ 2.8 million views, ’88 di bandook’ and Sohna lagda tu’ has 2.1 million views each.Sources said that Sukhi would often visit Inder whenever he returned to Punjab from Canada. He would talk about marrying her soon. Inder Kaur’s family also began treating him like their son-in-law. Inder’s family went to Moga and met Sukhi Brar’s family and they too began treating Inder like their daughter-in-law.Family members revealed that on January 11, 2026, Sukhi visited Inder’s house to celebrate her birthday. On his way, he told her that they would get married in March this year. Inder dreamed of a March wedding, but he didn’t come. As March month came close, Sukhi started making excuses and asked Inder to wait for a few more months.The deceased’s kin shared that everything was going well between the two, but Sukhi kept a crucial truth hidden from Inder that he was already married. The reason behind Inder’s murder was that she was pressuring him to marry her.Due to this, Sukhi, along with his father and other associates, plotted to murder Inder. After killing her, he fled to Canada via Nepal.Duo met on InstagramRelative and former councillor Jaspal Singh Giaspura said Inder was on the verge of becoming a big star at the time, and Sukhi was settled in Canada. The two met on Instagram about five years ago. They began talking via Messenger and became friends. They shared their numbers and began chatting.According to Giaspura, Sukhi proposed to her, and Inder accepted. After some time, Inder told her family about this. Later, Inder’s family went to Moga to see the boy’s house. The boy’s parents also agreed to the relationship, but they also hid the truth that their son was married.According to Giaspura, the girl’s parents and one brother live in South Korea. Inder lived with her uncle in Ludhiana along with her other brother. Since Inder was in the singing industry, she frequently travelled to Chandigarh or other cities for recording.Giaspura said that Sukhi had told Inder that after marriage, he would take her and her brother to Canada. As both families were aware about the relationship, they had started treating each other like relatives.According to family members, Sukhi stopped her from singing or using social media, which is why, despite having millions of followers, Inder wasn’t active on her Facebook or Instagram accounts. She hadn’t released any songs for about three-four years. She opened a boutique and also started working as a makeup artist. She had again started posting reels on Instagram recently.Giaspura also shared with media that Inder was 29 years old and she was now asking Sukhi to marry her soon. “He was in Canada and was married there. He has two children. A boy aged 12 years and a girl aged seven years. That is why he wasn’t marrying Inder,” he said.”On May 13, Inder took her own Ford Figo car to say goodbye to Sukhi who was to go Canada. However, when Inder didn’t return, a case was registered at the Jamalpur police on the charge of abduction. About four days ago, the car was found in the Neelon canal and on May 19, her body was also found in the canal. She was reportedly shot dead by the accused and later, the body was dumped into the canal. A bullet shell was also found in the car which gave the suspicion that singer could have been shot dead. After murder, the accused reached Nepal border by hiring a taxi from Moha and then fled to Canada via Nepal. He had come to India via Nepal only,” added ACP Inderjit Singh.ACP Singh added that the police had arrested three accused in the case, including Sukhi’s father Pritam Singh, one Karamjit Singh and one more person. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered.
