Speaking on X, Harry said: “Fairly astonishing scenes here at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“Just as things were getting under roll, the President arrived, they had the national anthem, people were just starting to eat.
“All of a sudden, about just a few yards from where I am standing now, through those doors, right there, we heard what sounded like a significant number of gunshots.
“Secret Service were suddenly everywhere, guns drawn, the President was evacuated, we saw Pete Hesketh being evacuated just right from where we are, the Cabinet had been taken out, a major security concern here.

“But from where I was sitting, it sounded like at least five gunshots in the lobby, just yards from where thousands, well, nearly two and a half thousand people had gathered for this dinner, through those doors there.
“They’ve been sealed off now, was where something happened.”
