In a clear message to all AAP MLAs and halqa incharges, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today asked them to “improve their public image or be ready to face the consequences”.Addressing his party MLAs, leaders and ministers at PAP Complex in Jalandhar, the CM reportedly said he was receiving complaints of acts of omission and commission from public against several of them. “I am working day in and out to keep the image of the AAP government clean and go to the public to seek their mandate by saying how the AAP government is different from our political opponents. But some of you are acting in an unbecoming manner…I have report of each one of you,” he is learnt to have said to them, though he reportedly did not take any names. The meeting reported lasted for about an hour and was chaired by Mann along with party’s Punjab affairs incharge Manish Sisodia and state party chief Aman Arora. Mann is also learnt to have pointed towards his colleagues in the Cabinet and said he had a report on their working as well. It is learnt that Mann has been upset after one of his Cabinet colleagues, along with an MLA, got embroiled in a controversy of buying a trolley from a private person without clearing the dues. The two leaders involved in the controversy are learnt to have got an “earful” from Mann, as did another MLA, who has been visiting an ongoing protest, reportedly without the consent of the party bigwigs.CM Mann’s outburst reportedly stunned the leaders present at the meeting, who are learnt to have listened to the sermonising in rapt silence. Mann is also learnt to have told the gathering to ensure that their kin present a picture of model citizens and stop interfering in governance. Sisodia, while addressing the gathering, also told the MLAs and leaders, that with elections to the next Vidhan Sabha round the corner, the public was watching them and would cast their votes based on their performance. ‘While we are leaving no stone unturned to see the party back in power, some of your actions are pulling us down,” he is learnt to have said.A senior party functionary, while requesting anonymity, told The Tribune that this was an internal meeting of the party and was convened to prepare MLAs for the electoral battle that lays ahead. Sources in the party, present in today’s meeting, have told The Tribune that Arora vouched for every word said by the CM and Sisodia. “Whatever they have said today is only for your benefit and that of the party,” he said.
