The Ministry of Railways is set to launch the beta version of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website soon. The IRCTC and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) on Friday showcased the beta version of the revamped website to students of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, and sought additional feedback ahead of its public launch.Notably, MNIT students had last month highlighted persistent issues with captcha verification and other performance-related shortcomings on the IRCTC website during Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s visit to Rajasthan. Taking cognisance of their concerns, the minister directed officials to undertake a comprehensive revamp of the platform within 30 days to improve user experience and overall system performance.According to the Railways, the redesigned IRCTC portal is currently being integrated with the passenger reservation system, which is also undergoing a major upgrade. As both systems are being modernised simultaneously, the fully functional version of the new IRCTC website is expected to be rolled out in the coming months.Addressing concerns over Tatkal bookings, officials said several measures had been implemented to curb the use of bots. While these efforts had led to some improvement, they acknowledged that preventing misuse remained an ongoing challenge and said further measures would continue to strengthen the booking system.
