Tel Aviv [Israel], August 11 (ANI/TPS): Israel is preparing to use its underground spaces to store energy, natural gas, hydrogen and carbon dioxide under a new regulatory framework. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure published a legal memorandum proposing amendments to the Mining Ordinance that would regulate the exploration and development of underground storage sites for the first time. The plan also covers compressed-air and heat storage and geothermal energy production. The ministry said the measures are intended to strengthen Israel’s energy security and independence, reduce emissions and support its climate goals for 2050. The amendment would also establish safety rules, licensing procedures and a special track for pilot projects using emerging technologies.
